What our customers say
We stayed as a family of 4 for three nights. The safari tent was well equipped with lots of warm bedding and blankets. We used the hot tub every night and enjoyed the lights twinkling in the distance even in the rain. The area is very peaceful and the kids loved the mud kitchen and sand pit. Plenty of hot water for everyone to take the chill off in the morning. Information sent beforehand was really useful and we recieved a warm welcome on arrival. There is lots to do in the surrounding area for kids – we visited a coal mine museum and the national caves. It was a great stay and would highly recommend it to anyone.
Just Fabulous!
What a find! We were a group of 13, which included adults and children and stayed in all 3 safari tents for a weekend. Stunning views from all tents and so peaceful. All were beautifully clean and well equipped. We loved having a proper bathroom! The tents are far enough apart so we could have our own privacy but close enough so we could spend time together, have BBQ’s and enjoy the biggest hot tub. Loved all the extras the hosts had thought of like blankets for the evenings, and the Den beds are a favourite with the kids!
Excellent facilities locally, the Co-op is a few minutes drive and we had a wonderful meal in the local The Church house Inn – we couldn’t fault any of the food and the staff were very welcoming. There is lots to do within about 40 minutes, we climbed Pen y Fan and can thoroughly recommend the Gorge adventure with Parkwood outdoors in the Brecon Beacons. Would love to come back.
Fun at Dan y Ffawydden
We had a lovely time at under the oak glamping! It was peaceful , relaxing and we all really enjoyed ourselves. We ventured out for walks and little further a feild too! The kids and dogs had a fab time! Thank you ❤️. We stayed in Dan y Ffawydden and really enjoyed the hot tub too
Perfect family holiday
What an amazing place! We loved to stay here for our family-holiday. The kids played a lot with the mudkitchen, roasted marshmallows over the fire and we all enjoyed the hottub! The views over the pond are stunning. The tent has everything you need for a holiday.
Amazing experience!! Under the oak glamping sits in a fabulous region of the Welsh country side. The tent is cozy, comfy and well equipped, the bath tub is easy to prepare and the views are breathtaking. On top of that, the generous hosts, Lydia and Richard, left a yummy dose of delicious welsh cakes. I definitely recommend under the oak glamping for a wholesome getaway.
Stunning
what can i say? the sun was shining; the birds were singing, and all is well. relaxing weekend with no interruptions. we had the small accommodation that we were taken to on arrival. it served our purpose. nice fan in the hut and the hot tub was just perfect at the end of the day. we then were able to sit on the lawn and watch the stars come out in pitch blackness with no one and nothing bothering us until about two in the morning.
One of the best short breaks I’ve had
We run a busy business and rarely get time away from it all, so we wanted a place to go where we could switch off, relax and not be disturbed. Under the oak delivered on it all, we had such a peaceful, relaxing time. The cosiest comfiest bed, a hot soak in the hot tub every night, stunning views and wildlife to watch – it was everything we wanted and more. Can’t wait to come back
Just Perfect!
We started our round trip of Wales here, doing adventurous activities in the Brecon Beacons and it could not have been a nicer base camp. We had all the facilities we could ask for and more.
Coming back to a kitchen and a hot tub was perfect, the scenery was stunning and the hut/tent was spectacular.
We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived, during the stay we were very comfortable and for what was offered, we were incredibly happy with the price.
Overall, I would 100% stay here again and I’d highly recommend this to anyone.
A beautifully cosy place to stay
We originally planned to visit with our two friends and their 5 year old however they unfortunately couldn’t make it last minute. However that did not tarnish the holiday at all. It was such a beautiful place, with a gorgeous view; an amazing tent (we stayed in the safari tent) and the hospitality from the owners was next level amazing.
When we arrived we were promptly met by the owners and guided to our special parking area, right by our site. We had so much space to ourselves and were not overlooked at all. Which is perfect since we had our 2 year old and dog to keep an eye on. And they had so much room to run around.
In our own bit we were able to enjoy our own hot tub, BBQ area with picnic bench and my daughter loved the sandpit and mud kitchen! We had a big decking area out the front of the tent which we did yoga on each morning 🙂
Inside the tent was also super cosy (but roomy!) and had lots of nooks and crannies to it. Complete with wood burner which was great for the mornings when it was a bit chilly. Our daughter and I coslept in a little bed room up some ladders and found it super cosy with the fairy lights for story time!
We had great adventures nearby in the Brecon Beacons and the seaside at Porth Cawl. And the nature in the summer bloom was just breath taking.
We had all the weathers and found it fine in the tent no matter what. Cosy in the rain with the fire on or cool with the door open when the sun was out.
I highly recommend staying here as a family especially – the owners could not do more for you!
A spectacularly beautiful spot to spent a week
From the moment that we drove up the hill and our safari tent came in to view we knew we had picked a beautiful place to camp for a week. There are actually three of these safari tents. Ours was positioned facing the water with a view of the great old oak tree, roots exposed and reflected beautifully in the water. Another is placed on the opposite side with a larger grassy area for kids to play, (this one is still just as close to the water but rotated by 90 degrees so as to face on to the grassy area as well. From this tent you can walk a few feet down to the base of the oak tree to admire it. The third safari tent is situated away from the water in its own secluded green area, with much more space for children to run around. All three, (though ours in particular) are stunningly beautiful and well kept, with lovely kitchen, bathroom and sleeping areas. Additionally an outdoor fire pit, an indoor log burner, and an outdoor hot tub are all provided for your enjoyment.
We had such an amazing time at Under the Oak and ventured out as far as Pembrokeshire to see the impressive coastline.
It would be difficult to find things to improve about the site, however I do think that the cost of wood was a bit steep at £7 for a relatively small amount. In particular this is steep when you consider that the hot tub is not electric and has to have a fire stoked for a few hours to bring it up to temperature.
Under the Oak glamping was one of the nicest glamping sites I’ve ever stayed in and we will definitely be returning in the future.
Thank you Lydia and Richard!!
Birthday extravaganza weekend – just perfect!
Stayed in the 6-berth safari tent with family to celebrate my birthday. We all enjoyed the space, the views, the hot tub, the BBQ, the woodburner, well everything!. Also enjoyed the quiet and the privacy. Lynda and Richard have used their land well, taking advantage of the hillside and have not crowded the safari tents together. Really liked the off pitch parking – all adds to the get-away-from-it-all feel. They also assisted with the birthday balloons, bubbles, chococlates and flowers – thank you for helping with that extra touch! I highly reommend!
Relaxing and good quality accommodation. Beautiful views.
Absolutely stunning views. Very well presented accommodation. Super impressed with shower in the ensuite. Very relaxing with the wood fired hot tub and views across the valley. Owners were friendly and very accommodating – couldn’t fault the service. Great 4g signal on 3 and smarty!
Lovely stay would recommend
We just returned from a stay for 3 nights in cartref the converted railway carriage and we could not fault it. Absolutely lovely setting, very peaceful with great views. The hot tub was great in the evening, we paid £25 for the extra bags of firewood beforehand and would recommend as we used them all through cooking on the fire and lighting the hot tub. Lots of things to do nearby, we did a hike in the Brecon Beacons as it’s not a far drive. Would definitely return!
perfect getaway
me and my partner has just visited for a couple of nights, wow is all i can say absolutely stunning place, stayed in cynefin, converted railway cart, was well impressed with the whole setup from the carriage itself to the woodfired hot tub. what a beautiful view and such a quiet little spot under the old oak tree, everything provided was amazing, i would recommend paying the extra £25 for the extra bags of logs, we just about used all 5 bags 1 free and the 4 you get for your £25, would highly recommend and we will definitely be returning hopefully during this summertime cant wait to be honest wanna go back already!!!
Relaxing get away
We had a great time! Everything we needed was made available. I had a few queries that were quickly answered at checkout. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys the outdoors or wants a relaxing get away that’s a bit different! Definitely one to remember 🙂
Beautiful, Peaceful, Re-charge
I don’t even know where to start! The beautiful views, snug homely glamping carriage, lovely owners. I booked 2 nights stay in one of the carriages for my husbands birthday and we was not disappointed. Tucked away with beautiful views, lovely little touch of a birthday banner 🙂 just all u need with a comfy bed, wood burner, fridge and little bathroom. Just perfect little getaway. Absolutely loved the wood burner hot tub too with little fairy lights to set the mood. I would love to come back again to recharge and relax! Thank you under the oak for the perfect hideaway break.
Top notch glamping – loved it!
Just returned from 2 nights in cynefin carriage for my partners birthday – his first glamping experience and we both absolutely loved it. The accommodation is beautiful, super cosy and very well equipped, impressed to have a bathroom inside, major plus! Loved the concept of an honesty shop on site and felt like we were completely secluded up on the hill (omg the views!!). The owners were brilliant, always on hand to help and made us feel very welcome. The hot tub was such a luxurious touch too and perfect to enjoy the surroundings day or night. We enjoyed getting to grips with how to build a good fire! I’d definitely visit again and have already been passing on details to friends and family. Very impressed!
Amazing place, lovely owners, can’t wait to come back!
Myself and my boyfriend stayed here over Bonfire night weekend and it was so lovely. It was really easy to from the M4 and even in the dark we could see the signs and found our way to Cartfef. Inside was even better than we were expecting; it was super cosy, decorated lovely and had everything we needed for the weekend. We lit the fire as soon as we got in and it warmed up the place really quickly and kept us toasty for the evening. The kitchen was a perfect size and was full with so many utensils and crockery. It all felt really clean and well kept. It was very easy and quick to get into caerphilly for main shops/supermarkets, however l there were other places nearby if you wanted to walk somewhere. It was lovely being on the hill as we could see so many fireworks from right inside our door. I would highly recommend this place to anyone that wants a perfect getaway! I would highly recommend this place
Wonderfully relaxing getaway
We stayed for two nights in Dan Y Ffawydden with out teenage daughter who we thought would be bored, but she absolutely loved it and so did we! From the amazing view, to the quirky tent, everything was just completely spot on. We wanted a peaceful getaway, to relax and enjoy spending time with other, and this was the perfect place to do it. My husband enjoyed looking after the fires, and chopping mountains of wood which we brought with us, much needed as there is the log burner, fire pit and hot tub burner to keep going. Our daughter enjoyed the coziness of the bedroom nook with its fairy lights, and I enjoyed sitting with a cuppa and a book on the veranda overlooking the beautiful Caerphilly mountains. The campsite is close enough to the town if you need to pop in for supplies, or explore the castle, but not too close, so you still feel like you’re getting away from it all. We can’t wait to go back.
The perfect little getaway
My partner and I were looking for a last minute getaway in the UK and after searching online we found Under the Oak via Cool Camping. We stayed for 3 nights in Cartref and it was just pure heaven – going out exploring South Wales in the day and then coming back for a dip in the hot tub and some dinner by the fire in the evening. The hosts were lovely and helpful, we had everything we needed and it all felt very covid safe too. Thank you Under the Oak – we will be recommending to everyone we know and would love to stay again in the future.
Fantastic hidden gem
We had the best few days away here! Myself, my husband (and our 2 dogs) just wanted a few days away from everything to relax and this place did not disappoint! The safari tent was lovely, with everything you could possibly need. The setting was very picturesque – next to a lake and surrounded by fields with the only sounds being from the birds and cows! We went on walks every day, all from our base and the scenery was great. There is a lovely little pub at the bottom of the hill to the site (Church house inn) with a big beer garden and a marquee so we could take the dogs – great service in here! The co-op and butchers are only a few min drive from the site so plenty of places to grab food to cook on the outdoor fire pit. The walk back up the hill is a bit of a killer but if you like walking then this is a great place to stay! We would definitely recommend staying here and would love to come back one day!
What an amazing break away that was 😁
This was a brilliant break from start to finish! The safari tent was spacious and surprisingly cosy in the autumn weather. The hot tub was great fun to watch the stars from. You don’t even realise other people are on the site it is so well designed. The only negative was that we had to leave .. book longer than you think you want😁
Highly recommended!
We (my husband, our 6 month old baby and I) had a fantastic 2 night stay in a safari tent. The accommodation is clean, comfortable and super relaxing… we would have loved to stay longer! We were a bit concerned about having the baby with us but it was great! There is electricity, hot running water and the tent stays nice and warm.
Wonderful weekend away
We just spent 2 nights here and had a fantastic stay. The converted railway carriage was so lovely and comfortable, and had everything you need, the location was beautiful and quiet and the wood fired hot tub was a lovely treat. Would definitely recommend it. We did a lovely hike on the local area and would recommend the forest drive too.
Superb stay at beautiful location
I booked CYNEFIN one of the two refurbished railway carriages at Under The Oak for my partners 50th Birthday. Having just returned from our stay I would just like to say the following on our time there. The accommodation was excellent and completed to a high standard. The added bonus of the hot tub was just brilliant. I added in some of the packages available from the owners and they were just amazing. We certainly weren’t going to go hungry!!! The romance package was a total surprise for my partner and again just so beautiful. Set in a lovely location it was just so chilling and a perfect way to round of my partners birthday. Thank you Lydia & Richard for a wonderful stay. Would highly recommend to friends and family.
Fab little hideaway!
A perfect little hideaway to get away from the world for a few nights. The accommodation is clean and comfortable (especially the very comfy and cosy bed). All you need is available. The hot tub is superb to relax in and the firepit with grill over is great for a BBQ and to keep you warm after a dip. It’s peaceful with a lovely view out over the landscape below which is great for the soul! We ventured to the pub (Church House Inn) at the bottom of the hill and enjoyed a lovely lunch, the food was great and the staff very friendly. The walk back up the hill was a lot harder than going down but the hot tub soothed the aching legs! Overall a great place to enjoy a few days relaxation. Thanks Under the Oak Glamping, we will definitely recommend you to our friends and family (actually, we already have) and will definitely be back in the future!
Beautiful Glamping and location
Amazing tents, Lydia and Richard have thought of everything. Stylish yet practical inside. Constant hot water and cosy when you get the wood burner on. Location is so pretty and beautiful views from our tent. We took the 6 man tent which worked well with 2 teenagers. Hot tub a big bonus too. Would highly recommend.
Amazing Glamping Holiday
We have just returned from a four night stay in the Dan Y Dderwen safari tent- what an amazing find this place is! The tent is spacious, well equipped and very clean. Our children loved the Welsh box bed with the twinkly lights and the beds were super comfy. The wood fired hot tub was wonderful, and Richard was very helpful when we struggled getting it going it one evening- it’s very easy once you get the hang of it! We found there was plenty to do in the area, only a half hour drive to Cardiff and a little further to some nice beaches. We also had a great morning at Mountain View Ranch (20 mins away) which had a Gruffalo trail- a big hit with our children. Thank you Lydia and Richard for a wonderful stay, we will definitely be returning!
lovely secluded place in the south of wales, amazing views and so nice and quiet.
We booked the shepherds hut as our ‘Mini Moon’ for 4 nights. We loved our 5 days in Wales and had a great stay. The little cabin was set under a large tree up the hill which had amazing views! It was so quiet and secluded surrounded by beautiful fields and the open countryside. So peaceful it was lovely to be away from the hustle of city life. The cabin had everything we needed – a little kitchen fully equipped and a bathroom. Outside we had a wood burning hot tub which was situated under fairy lights. The camp fire was great for cooking food and we BBQ’d most nights. We loved our stay. Richard and Lydia were very warm and friendly and welcomed us warmly when we arrived. The pub at the bottom of the hill is great for food and drink and Caerphilly is a short bus ride from the centre of the village. . We couldn’t recommend this place enough we enjoyed our mini moon a lot. Kind regards The Newlyweds.
Much more luxurious than I expected
We spent a great week here, as a family of 3 we had lots of space, lots of time to relax, enjoy the hot tub and explore the area. The kitchen was very well stocked and the beds were extra comfy. A great base for Bike Park Wales and Zipworld adventures. We would certainly like to return. A wonderful staycation luxury.
Beautiful tents in a beautiful setting
We spent a very wet and windy august weekend at under the Oak but had an absolutely brilliant time. Three families had three safari tents and despite the weather we had more fun than we’ve had all year! The tents themselves are absolutely perfect. So well laid out, clean, cosy and comfortable (this is our 4th safari tent holiday and these tents are the best so far). We spent most of a rainy Saturday afternoon in the hot tub and spent Sunday afternoon at Caerphilly castle. We spent evenings cooking and grilling together and enjoying the views from various tent balconies. Lydia and Richard were super responsive and helpful hosts. One final thing is that the log burners and logs were so easy to use (not always the case) and total novices were heating up cabins in no time 😆👍
Stunning little gem
What a wonderful find, under the oak glamping certainly lived up to its name . Lovely accommodation and picturesque views . Great base to explore the beautiful waterfalls , beaches and countryside. Would highly recommend this lovely place .
A beautiful base in wonderful wales!!
Well… where to start! What a wonderful 5 days in Dan y dderwen! Myself, my husband and our 2 kids (7&4) have had a brilliant few days exploring the surrounding areas with this amazing safari tent as our home. The tent is equipped with everything you could possibly need from firelighters & kindling to shower gel and towels. The beds are so comfy and the duvets are heavenly! The fairy lights in the “cosy bed” were a big hit!! The wood burner keeps the tent lovely & warm and the kids adored having their pyjamas warmed at night & making s’mores. The hot tub is so fun – once we got the hang of lighting it & keeping it warm and the views are incredible. We had a great big bit of lawn out the front where we played cricket, football and hide and seek…. The dog also learnt to swim in the pond!! (Sorry ducks!). We discovered the sandpit and the kids thought that was a brilliant addition. Lydia and Richard were on hand to answer questions when needed and they were totally dedicated to ensuring a faultless holiday. A wonderful break that we would all recommend to anyone!!
Perfect
We had an amazing time at under the oak this weekend. We stayed in cartref and it was perfect. Lovely and cosy for the two of us, exactly what I was looking for. The hot tub was the highlight of the weekend with wonderful views and the peacefulness of the countryside. It was very private as all lodges are spaced apart well. 100% would recommend staying here. Couldn’t have been better.
Superb place to relax!
My partner and I have been to Under the Oak Glamping twice now, and are trying to book a third visit in the next month or two. The surroundings are peaceful, hardly any noise other than for birds, cows and the odd tractor in the fields above the site. The safari tents are spacious and fully equipped so you do not miss the simple luxuries of hot and cold running water and a huge bathroom. Richard and Lydia can’t do enough for you before or during your stay; Lydia is actually keeping me updated on the duck family we adopted during our last visit – we are desperate to know the ducklings have flown with momma duck! I can’t recommend the site highly enough, you will not be disappointed at all!!
Peaceful
Wonderful spot up in the hills away from busy life. We stayed for four nights in Cartref – beautifully restored railway carriage with decking, hot tub and fire pit. Had everything you need for a comfortable stay (loved the little extras e.g. the welsh cakes and cooking oil), great to have the fire pit (sausage sizzle with family) and not really aware of the other accomodation as all so well spaced out. Only tip I’d give is to check the temperature of the hot tub water before adding more logs….we didnt and almost boiled ourselves!! Would definitely recommend staying here. Thank you so much to Lydia and Richard.
Fabulous!
Had an absolutely fabulous weekend glamping at Under the Oak. The safari tent was clean and comfy, had a lovely shower and the hot tub was the cherry on top. Would recommend to anyone who wants to get away from the hussle and bustle of normal life.
We will be back soon
Beautiful peaceful place, lovely owners, spotless, comfy beds and such a pretty place with its own hot tub. Loved the ducks. I would recommend it to anyone
Perfect getaway
After a year long working and not much time off in between, My partner and myself wanted to book a hot tub cabin in the middle of know where to zone out from the world. We found it… This lovely cosy hot tub wagon was ideal and satisfied every request. The quite, the views, plus the hosts are very welcoming. We didn’t leave the wagon for two days ( Not even for a stroll )! Just what was needed. I have recommended and will definitely return.
Beautiful place!
Had a lovely weekend away in one of the gorgeous, quirky huts. Spotlessly clean, with everything you needed for a couple of days away. Beds were amazingly comfy! Brilliantly located, with lots of local walks nearby, but also only half an hour away from Cardiff, as well as other places of interest! Hot tub was lovely, and even used the firepit for a lovely BBQ! Will definitely be returning! Thank you!
Amazing peaceful getaway
Absolutely lovely place to stay, owners are lovely. It’s a peaceful, and fabulous place our safaritent was by the pond which was a lovely location. It’s perfectly located to see across the countryside and see the sea. Place is clean and the hampers which I paid extra for are lovely. Hot tub is brilliant and keeps absolutely right temperature via the log burner, soothes them joints after a day walking. Would recommend to go for a getaway
Fabulous, relaxing space
We arrived for a relaxing weekend stay and that’s exactly what we had. The tents are spacious, spotlessly clean and have everything you need. The location is peaceful and private. The hot tub was great fun. There was plenty of space in front and around the tent and beautiful walks from the campsite. Highly recommended and we will return.
Brilliant getaway
Been here twice now. First time we came 2 years ago, surprise for my birthday and it was amazing what they had done to help celebrate my birthday, we also had our 2 dogs with us, plenty of room for them and space to run around. Second time we stayed in the railway carriage, weekend just gone and that was just as good as the first time, my partner done it as a treat for us. Very cozy, plenty of room for just us, and the outside looked beautiful, nice BBQ which cooked the food very nicely and of course the hot tub which was very nice to settle in after a nice walk to the viewpoint and back. It’s exactly the place you want to visit to relax, and actually open your eyes, see the scenery and realise how beautiful the place is.
Wonderful bank holiday stay
We had a lovely, relaxing stay at Under the Oak over the May bank holiday. We got very lucky with the weather, the setting is gorgeous. We loved sitting by the fire and watching the ducks on the pond. The hot tub was fantastic and seeing all the bats coming out at dusk, and then the stars appearing whilst sitting in the hot water was incredible. The tent was much bigger than it seemed on the photos and really well-equipped. The shower was nice and hot with good pressure and the bed was comfy and cosy. The only thing we wished for was a couple of deck chairs or loungers outside so we could sit in the sun in comfort!
Just returned from the most beautiful weekend at Under the Oak Glamping. The most perfect place to go if you need a peaceful break away. We stayed in the quirky converted railway carriage Cynefin. I absolutely loved it! The cabin was spotless, clean and cosy. The bed was comfy, the kitchen provided us with all the essentials we needed to cook and the host included lots of little details down to candles, games and firelighters to add sparkle to our trip. The grounds and views surrounding the cabin were stunning and being able to watch sunrise and sunset was breath taking. Lydia was the perfect host! She was so kind and helpful before, during and after our stay! Highly recommend and will definitely return
Lovely relaxing weekend
Had an amazing time with my hubby and 2 kids in toe, the kids especially loved the tree house bed and hot tub and we loved the added bonus of a power shower. Tranquil setting overlooking a duck pond and a morning moo from the cows, oh and not forgetting the superb sunsets ….. will definitely be recommending to family and friends
Great for a relaxing break
Lovely place to visit, sit in the wood fired hot tub and take in the surroundings. Excellent set up, nature with a touch of glamour. Great to get away after the Covid lockdowns. I haven’t got a bad word to say about the place, accommodation or hosts. We hope to return sometime soon.
Lovely 2 night stay for my birthday
Everything you could need for a glamping trip. The safari tent included all the essentials we could need, the decor was so lovely and the location is absolutely beautiful. The communication with lynda and Richard was very good and they were on hand for anything we needed. Would highly recommend!
Perfect in every sense of the word
So what can I say about this magical, beautiful, stunning little getaway. Lydia and Richard are amazing, very friendly and inviting. The accommodation was absolutely beautiful only beaten by the stunning views around you as you sit, relax and feel the stress run from your body. The bed was really comfy, the kitchen fully equipped and a cozy little en-suite. I cannot praise this place enough, the only way for you to find out how wonderful it is, is to experience it for yourself. Get booking and get glamping.
Absolutely stunning location, wonderful hosts!
This was our first time visiting Wales and definitely won’t be the last! The converted railway carriage was so gorgeous, with the stunning views from the hot tub and not to mention the attention to detail inside and out. Lydia made us feel very welcome and gave lots of tips of where to visit nearby. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful relaxing weekend, plus there are so many activities to do such as the Brecon Beacons and beaches. Amazing few days, cannot wait to go back!
Firstly, can I say that we can’t believe that this is on our door step and so happy that we stumbled across Under The Oak Glamping on Instagram. We really don’t appreciate what’s on our doorstep . . . Well, until now 🥰 It’s an absolutely stunning location on a family run farm in the Welsh mountains. The views are incredible. Lydia & Richard are the most friendly, welcoming hosts. We spent the weekend in Cynefin Railway Carriage. . . The Most Beautiful Little Home for the Weekend. The decor is done to a very high standard. We loved the little en suite & the wood fire hot tub. The log burner was a great touch, felt so cosy in the evenings 😍 We had the best nights sleep. Under The Oak Glamping is the Perfect Getaway. Wonderful Stay & Wonderful Hostess 🏞 We will definitely be back with our family & friends soon🥰
Beautiful escape to the countryside
We booked the wagon and when we arrived Richard had the woodburner going which was fabulous as it was already dark even though it was late afternoon December. The decor is simple but beautiful, all the mod cons and a lovely view from the top of the hill. This is a fabulous place to escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. All the equipment is there to make fab food and in the morning as the snow fell and the bacon sizzled we fired up the hot tub. It takes a couple of hours and plenty of wood so don’t be stingy with it as you are worth it! Peppered with walks, reading, Backgammon, cooking and friendlies, a day in a hot tub with great views across the valley was the perfect birthday treat: the morning snow flurry, the midday sunshine, the early evening blue/pink sunset and then the stars appearing was an absolute joy. So close to home in Cardiff, I felt like we were a million miles away. With no one overlooking as you are on the top of the hill we felt such freedom. It was simply the best.
Wonderful yet again
This is our second visit to Under the Oak and yet again it didn’t disappoint. We stayed in the converted carriage again because we loved it so much last time. This time the bath had been swopped for a log fire hot tub which was just wonderful, stepping outside into the hot tub for a glass of wine before dinner was just perfect. The weather was horrendous while we were there but there is definitely something magical about sitting inside all warm and cosy, log burner blazing while the wind and rain howl outside….needless to say we will definitely be returning as soon as we can
Fantastic glamping experience
We have just returned from a weekend here where we were able to relax and enjoy the wonderful scenery and go for walks straight from the tent. we loved having the hot tub and were lucky enough to see a firework display in the distance one night when we were in the hot tub.
Relaxing, private and great views!
We stayed in the converted carriage following a recommendation from friends. What an absolute gem of a place! The outside bath was a huge hit, nothing more relaxing than a soak in the tub watching the sunset. The place is so relaxing and peaceful, we will definitely be back.
We glamped at Under The Oak during lockdown: 5 of us and the dog in the Safari tent. The tent was lovely: very clean and nicely decorated. The owners were very helpful and friendly. The hot tub was great. Tip: if you are going in the Autumn budget extra for wood: we went through quite a few bags for the fire and hot tub. We had our own private spot with a great view. Would highly recommend.
Beautiful place to come and relax with your family or just couples, with very pleasant hosts. We booked the safari tent for just myself and my partner for her birthday and have to say were not disappointed! beautiful cosy living quarters with a romantic set bed which you have to climb a small ladder to get into, the bathroom is spacious and the decking and hot tub outside sets everything off perfectly. Would be a beautiful stay for children with fantastic walks to keep everyone busy through out the day, would highly recommend and most definitely be coming back with family.
This is a definite 5 star for us, what an amazing place. We stayed in the converted railway carriage called Cynefin and it was absolutely gorgeous. Super cute Everything you need including an outside bath which we really wasn’t sure about until we used it. We loved it!! Thanks Lydia & Richard for making our stay so amazing
Peaceful place in beautiful location
We booked to stay during local lockdown and we enjoyed the family time together. The children enjoyed the hot tub at night watching the stars and marshmallows on the fire. The mud kitchen & sand pit we’re a big hit for the children! Thank you both for wonderful stay
Glorious views, luxurious camping
What an absolutely idyllic spot with incredible views. Lovely owners. High quality and robust Safari tent, fire pit, wood fired hot tub and facilities. I highly recommend. And I only live 10 minutes drive away!!!
Couldn’t fault it, perfect place to stay
We had a fabulous few days at Under The Oak Glamping this summer, with our two children aged 6 and 8. The accommodation was brilliant, and everything had been thought of. From a mud kitchen and sand pit to keep the kids amused, to candles, a fire pit and fairy lights around the hot tub. It was simply beautiful to watch the swallows over the pond at sunset, (glass of wine in hand). What an incredible spot with such amazing views. The setting with the oak was just stunning. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone visiting the area. With only three safari tents and a hut, it was very quiet and private, especially compared to a camp site. We are converts to safari tents, so much space!
Private,relaxing, hot tub,great views.
A friendly welcome upon arrival,a gentle walk to the Safari Tent ( due to Covid) where our luggage awaited us. The tent was well equipped, even USB ports on the sockets for the mobile generation. Both the tent and hot tub burners are easy to light ( all wood/kindling supplied). The tub is ready in an hour..ish. Sat in and enjoyed the great scenery. Lots of local walks with plenty of history, there’s Caerphilly Castle a mile away. Am recommending to friends and will return. 5stars
Absolutely stunning!
We have just returned from a long weekend stay at the under the oak camping and it was nothing short of amazing! The set up, facilities, the views are amazing and the owners have done an incredible job. We are already looking into rebooking!
We went as a group of friends as a staycation over the August bank holiday weekend and what a weekend It was! This place is amazing and the owners are so lovely. We enjoyed every minute and the tents are fantastic, i could go on and on how amazing we all think this place is. Thank you for having us and we will be back next year for sure!
Can’t recommend enough
This place is beautiful. We had the train carriage. I wanted somewhere I could barbecue with a view and go for good walks. It was exactly that. The view from our spot was really good. The cabin is really nice, with a cosy and comfy bed. A beautiful walk with incredible views stats directly out of the front door, and only takes ten or so minutes to get to the great views. It’s also really convenient for people like us, who can’t drive.
Peaceful glamping
We had a wondering time here, set on a lovely farm up a hill you have all the peace and quiet you need. The three of us had all the space and amenities we needed for a short stay. The chance to heat the hot tub, fire pit and the fire in the tent. It was a great experience to share with our 2 year old. The local butchers and superstores were close by, we went to Cardiff for dinner one evening which is not far. We walked around Caerphilly castle one afternoon, only a shame the weather was not on our side. To be honest we didn’t need to venture out, having quality family time playing Peppa Pig playing cards and drinking wine was just perfect for us. We would definitely come back again!
One of the best camping trips we’ve had
We’ve just arrived home after a fantastic week staying at Under the Oak, we were welcomed by Lydia and Richard and given a friendly overview of how everything works. We took two teenagers and our Dog who were all over the moon with the site. We stayed in the large 6 person Safari tent which had ample room, a huge area for the dog to run around and us to set up outdoor games. The hot tub was delightful after a days exploring to relax with a glass of wine. The tent had all the comforts of home, a super comfy four poster bed with fairy lights. Fresh sheets and towels and all the amenities you’d need for a great holiday. We cooked meals inside the tent and on the BBQ/fire pit with ease. Evenings were spent playing card games and toasting marshmallows over the fire pit, a beautiful location well thought out for all your needs for a fun family camping trip. Each day we enjoyed different activities all in relatively close proximity to the camp (30/40 minutes by car but many closer options too) gorge scrambling with Adventure Wales shout out to Alex!, horse riding with Ogmore Farm a beautiful beach ride and trek through the dunes, paddle boarding on the RiverTaff – we took our own boards and used the slipway of Channel view centre for a small fee (But they also hire out boards and canoes if needed). We were so fortunate with the weather having 4 day’s of sun but even on rainy days we chilled in the tent with a movie, stoking up the fire and eating on the veranda (4G reception is fine up there- Useful for teenagers). A fantastic week, Under the Oak will not disappoint. Thank you Lydia and Richard
We had a wonderful few days at Under the Oak staying in Cynefin. Watching bats in the evening sky from the outdoor bath was the perfect way to celebrate my birthday. This is the perfect spot for a romantic getaway. Lydia and Richard were very welcoming. We can’t wait to come back and stay in one of the safari tents soon!
Cannot recommend this place highly enough! Tucked away up on a gorgeous hill, if feels very rural and secluded with gorgeous views! Everything was sparkling clean and surpassed our expectations! Loved the honesty shop as well to be able to buy extra wood for the fire/hot tub and fresh eggs (as well as other local products) One thing to mention: it can feel quite cold in the morning (even when it’s warm outside) so bring layers to keep warm! Would definitely visit again 🙂
Lovely Break
Stayed at under the oak for a little 2 night break in July as our wedding got Corona’d! Was quite last minute as most places were booked. It didn’t disappoint, the tent are clean and very cosy. My children (3&4) love the cabin bed. The bonus to these tents are that you have a bathroom, which is great especially with little ones, shower was really good too! We had ordered a BBQ pack which was lovely, and cooked it on the fire pit. Hot tub was fun, and lush once you get it going. We had a lovely area to ourselves where the children could play, added bonus was the mud kitchen and sand pit! Located on top of the mountain which gave amazing views! We had a lovely break and would recommend.
Little corner of Heaven
We LOVED our stay at Under the Oak Glamping. It was so peaceful, very relaxing and Lydia/Richard were brilliant hosts. They were very accommodating and welcoming. Cynefin was stunning with gorgeous views and we had so much privacy. The outdoor bath tub was fabulous and we loved our outdoor fire ring/bbq. We purchased the BBQ hamper and breakfast hamper, both delicious and good value. We only stayed for 2 nights but were able to venture to Caerphilly Mountain, Castle and take a short drive to Barry Island/ Jackson Bay. It was perfect coming back and unwinding in our little corner of heaven. In the evening especially peaceful and the views were honestly breathtaking. We will be back in the future, it was just perfect for us! Highly recommend for anyone wanting to unwind and relax. It was lovely that during the current situation we had our own privacy and were able to keep safe but have the freedom of the countryside! Thank you Lydia/ Richard!
Beautiful, clean and spacious glamping tents with lovely modern interior. It really is like a home from home and set in a stunning location with wonderful owners. Will definitely be back every year!
I’ve totally fell in love with this place We stayed at Cynefin, (re-created from an old railway wagon) for our 17th Anniversary. We had such a wonderful time. We don’t live very far away but we could have been any where in the world. Fantastic views. So peaceful. I absolutely love the quirky bath idea. The owners are such lovely people too. We hope to return someday. X
Brilliant! A very special place.
Just back from four wonderful nights with my three boys and we all had the most amazing time. Beautiful views and scenery. Really comfortable accommodation. Everything was so good! So much to do nearby… Pen y fan…. four falls walk… biking…. quad biking and archery. Can’t recommend highly enough – we will definitely be back – thank you to Richard and Lydia who are lovely hosts too.
Under the oak, above the worries
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in the Cynefin wagon-turned-cabin at Under The Oak. The site was very private but had an amazing view. I took full advantage of nightly fires to grill up goodies from the butcher in Bedwas, and the wood burner in the cabin kept the space nice and toasty as well. Lydia and Richard were friendly at check-in and left me equipped for solitude the rest of the time. I’m looking forward to my next books-and-campfires retreat at Under The Oak.
Perfect!!
My family and I (inc 2 dogs) have just returned from a very stress free 4 night stay at Under the Oak. We were fortunate enough to secure the 6 berth tent. I cannot speak high enough of it to be honest! The views were stunning, the grounds around the tent were exceptionally private and spacious which was perfect for our four legged friends. The hot tub was fun which even had drink holders in it…..perfect for that evening drink watching the sun go down. The bedrooms were great especially the cupboard bed which my 16yr old daughter bagged, it was finished off with fairy lights around it which made it even cosier. The log burner was lovely just to take the edge off the chillier evenings. I though the honesty box for logs/kindling was a good idea as you didn’t need to bother the owners at all. This was our 1st time glamping and certainly not our last! If you have dogs, this really is the place to visit for a few days! Very good communication from booking it to our farewell. I wish Richard and Lydia all the very best with this venture. We loved the place!!
Will Visit Again
Cozy and Relaxing Weekend
If I could give 100 stars I would!
Secluded retreat
Awesome
A birthday treat
Spent two nights at under the oak with my two kids aged 5 and 2. My 5 year old loved the box bed light with fairy lights and I was jealous I didn’t get to sleep in there! Tent was well equipped and the hot tub and mud kitchen both very popular. Shame the weather wasn’t a little better but the log burner kept us toasty and warm. Would love to return.
Amazing weekend in a beautiful location
Fabulously snug tent with comfy beds and glorious views. A great escape from day to day life with fire pit & hot tub, which is ideal for soaking away the stresses watching the birds and then the stars come out. Richard & Lydia were on hand when needed, but left us to our own devices. An idyllic retreat.
Situated on a working farm, high on the mountain above Bedwas with amazing views for miles this is definitely a place to visit. The safari tents are so well equipped. This is glamping on another level! Everything has been thought of- crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, bedding, towels etc. You literally only need to bring yourself, and food (although food hampers are available to order if you wish).
Lovely little welcoming touches like complimentary welsh cakes and fire wood for the wood burner and hot tub heater provided to get you started.
The kids loved the Mabinogion trail and spent hours there building dens and playing on the rope swing. Also, loved the mud kitchens and sandpits outside the tents.
The hosts, Lydia and Richard, are so welcoming and friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them.
Would highly recommend.
Magnificent
Amazing experience definately to be repeated
Beautiful and quiet
We booked to stay at Under the Oak Glamping at the very last minute! Let’s just say it was the best decision we made, this place is just amazing. We had a great time staying here for 2 nights, it was pure tranquility and were totally shut out from the world and embraced Glamping. The hot tub and the log burner were just perfect. The facilities within the tent were 5*. We will most certainly be returning :):)
Lovely spot in Bedwas. Arrived way before official check in time but Lydia and Richard happily accommodated. Surprised how quiet is was considering we were minutes from the hustle and bustle. The tent is even better than the pictures-you feel right at home as soon as you arrive and everything is designed to ensure your stay is comfortable. As a first time glamper used to city life, I was not disappointed. Got a taste of outdoor life but still felt comfortable because of the amenities available. Richard did warn us the ducks can be noisy at night but it didn’t stop us having a good nights rest. The bed brought back memories of childhood when I used to dream of treehouse living! The fairy lights are a cute touch. We cooked, we sang, we danced, we explored. Big highlight was the hot tub – perfect for a relaxing romantic get away- be careful not to load up too much wood as will get way too hot! Definitely a great find on Airbnb and would love to come back in the Winter.
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!
Wonderful place for a large group!
Would so highly recommend coming here. First time glamping and wasn’t sure about it but this was just perfect. Great location and was so ideal in every way. Can’t wait to stay again!!!
On arrival we met Lydia who was lovely and answered all the questions we had. The location is beautiful and views are stunning. The Canvas Lodge was spotless, comfy and such a relaxing feel. Only stayed for two nights and we was gutted to be leaving. Thinking more nights next time. Highly recommended and will be going back again.
We had a wonderful long weekend here with our friends in May. Beautiful location with lovely views, the tent was amazing, loved the set up inside, it was very clean and spacious. It was lovely to wake up in the morning and hear the cows mooing and ducks quacking away! We especially loved the hot tub, spent 4 hours in there taking in the views. There was also a big grass area out the front where our dog loved to run around. Would definitely recommend this place for a couple or a group of friends. Definitely will be back soon!
What a beautiful location. We traveled from Western Australia, to visit family in Cornwall and to experience ‘Under the Oak Glamping.’ Definitely worth the visit. Sunsets were stunning, visiting farm life were friendly, waking to sunshine each morning too and the hot tub added to a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Tents were comfortable and warm. Enjoyed every minute of our stay.
Lovely hosts. Spotless, warm and comfortable all weather safari tents. Although we were only a few miles from our home it felt like we could have been in Colorado. Beautiful scenery and a lovely family walk with a surprise for the kids at the end – just follow the arrows. Will definitely go back!
To celebrate our 2 year Wedding anniversary Me & my wife took our dog to Wales to stay at Under The Oak Glamping. We had an absolutely fantastic time. The location was stunning and the tub / Glamping was fantastic. The hosts were so helpful and reccomended some fantastic trails for us to do during our stay. Highly recommend!
The safari tent that we stayed in has everything we needed, and more. When we arrived the fridge had a little bottle of milk and a pack of Welsh cakes which was a lovely touch. The bedrooms were already made up with lovely thick duvets, and the beds had beautiful fairy lights around the top. The wood burning stove did not disappoint especially when the weather was a bit grim. I loved the finishing touches of the tents, with cosy blankets to drape over legs whilst chilling and reading. The hot tubs were amazing and the views were incredible especially as it turned to dusk. Luckily the rain stopped just enough to cook on the fire pit outside, a lovely piece of kit that my hubby is wanting of his own. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to explore the immediate area, but plan to do so in July when we return. Lots of space outside and the tents are nicely spaced out so it feels like you are the only ones there. Very nice break, would definitely recommend. Was originally thinking of going traditional camping but I am so glad I found this place as it took all the stress out of organising a break away. Thank you Richard and Lydia
A piece of heaven. Great to get away from it all location. The hot tub was an added bonus! (Don’t forget your flip flops!) beautifully clean safari tents with all your home comforts. The owner couldn’t have done more for us. We will definitely be back x
Very welcoming place friendly staff and very helpful would highly recommend the tent was incredible with everything you could need 🙂
Amazing venue, great information about the venue and lovely space! Loved it will be using the service again! Very quirky and perfect for a girly or couples trip! Lovely surroundings too and easy access to a busy city.
Have just come back from a wonderful weekend glamping. What a great place to stay! Great views to wake up to, the tent is very comfortable, perfect size and lovely furnishings, and the hot tub was fantastic! Plenty to see and do around the area and the hosts are very friendly and attentive. Would very much recommend
Under the Oak is a lovely isolated spot, perfect for a romantic weekend escape
Undertheoak glamping is the perfect hideaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life. We brought the children along and they had an absolutely amazing time. We watched the sunset, ran In the fields, watched the cows, enjoyed the hot tub and most of all loved the tent which was very well equipped. The bathroom is a bonus for those that know what glamping without a bathroom can be like. We have been glamping for 6 years and this is by far the best in terms of location, views, secluded and private surrounding and great host. We would definitely be visiting again. Thank you Lydia and Richard.
We absolutely loved our stay at Under the Oak, from Lydia’s greeting with a welcome hamper, to the amazing location and safari tent with everything you could need for a brilliant holiday. The tent had such amazing views, was just the right mix of home comforts and an outdoorsy feel and the hot tub added a fun experience being outdoors in the pitch black! It’s also a great location to visit some of the amazing places Wales has to offer including the Brecon Beacons, Southerndown Beach and Ystradfellte waterfalls. We couldn’t have asked for more and have already recommended Under the Oak to all of our friends.
We loved every minute of our stay! We stayed here for 3 nights and didn’t want to leave. Even better then what we expected. So peaceful and amazing views. We enjoyed the hot tub underneath the stars and a bbq in front of the lake. The safari tent had everything we needed and more. Best glamping experience we’ve had. Will definitely be back sometime next year! Thankyou
This has to be the best ‘glamping’ we’ve ever experienced. The location is beautiful, private but not too remote. We love that this is a working farm. The set up is fabulous. There was nothing we needed in addition. The sun came out half way through our stay and made our time here even more enjoyable. Rosabelle (goldendoodle) has given you 5*s.
Thank you both! And thank you for lighting the burners before we arrived.
Have no complaints at all. A truly magical and romantic experience. Thank you for this hidden gem! We will definitely be coming back. x x x
Just returned from a beautiful stay here at under the oak. A perfect setting, for a perfect safari tent!
Lydia and Richard were both lovely hosts who you could see has much passion for their venture.
We had a 2 night stay with our German Shepherd who absolutely loved the freedom of the fields and being able to cool off in the lake (even if he did get a ‘bit’ dirty)
If you’re thinking of a relaxing and calm getaway then look now further this is the place!
Will definitely return!
Just returned from a picture perfect 2 night stay. I felt like I was living in a fairy tale and am already looking at booking a stay for next year. Everything was PERFECT. The hosts are beautiful people and can’t do enough for you, the tent is immaculate, hot tub sensational and the location is out of this world. Our trip was just adults but would be a magical stay for children too. If you’re thinking of booking you will seriously not regret it – HAPPY GLAMPING!
We loved the views , the tranquillity , the hot tub and the very kind hosts . Will definitely come again.
Would highly recommend this beautiful getaway. Amazing scenery and tranquility away from our hectic lifestyles. Loved every minute of making fires and cooking on the fire pit! Inquisitive cows 🐮 and wildlife at night around the lake!! To top it off the one of a kind hot tub…just what we needed after a long walk! You have made a magical hideaway and we will definitely be back
The tent was amazing, the views were amazing and the hosts were amazing! The best escape!
“Perfect getaway! I surprised my husband for his birthday with a weekend away from our hectic lives and kids and that’s exactly what we had. Complete privacy and peace and quiet. The views are beautiful and the hot tub was superb! We spent most of the day and evening relaxing with a glass of prossecco watching the stars at night. We cooked some amazing feasts on the log fire and slept well in the comfy bed. It was lovely having a hot shower and toilet as well. Would definitely recommend staying there for some time out. ”
We had a lovely weekend here. The safari tent was clean, the area was enclosed which was perfect for our puppy. Lydia & Richard, helped us get our stuff to the tent and to get the hot tub going. We ate from the Fire Pit all weekend! We couldn’t recommend the place and hosts enough! Definitely worth a visit!
Stayed here for two nights and loved everything! Wonderful hosts who couldn’t do enough for us including picking us up from the train station and driving us to the tent! The tent was clean and well decorated, the hot tub was a highlight, with the box bed a close second. Amazing views of the mountains and Bristol channel, will absolutely be coming back soon!
Just got home from a 2 night stay with our pup. We loved it! Highly recommended staying here, hosts are lovely, very helpful and welcoming. Accommodation is clean, comfortable and relaxing. Beautiful mountain walks all around. A stunning private space to really unwind. Thank you 🙂
The best U.K. break I’ve ever had. The safari tent is well built and furnished beautifully. Location is outstanding and we were able to truly relax. Can’t recommend this enough and the hosts couldn’t do enough for you. We we definetly be returning to enjoy the hot tub some more.
We really can’t thank Lydia and Richard enough for allowing us to stay at this unique place with such character 🙂 the clear sky safari tent with timber frame and everything built inside absolutely blew me away was amazing 🙂 the place was very tidy and I could happily live there if I’m honest 🙂 the fire pit/bbq is great for cooking food as inside you had 2 hobs. The cabin bed in so comfy. The access from the car location to the cabin isn’t too far walk but Lydia was amazing and helped us bring our bags up to the cabin and back when we were leaving. the pond is great and the ducks and geese come and go which is nice to watch in the mornings with a coffee. Can’t rate this place high enough n we will definitely be returning at some point soon 🙂 thank you both I wish you all the best and see you on our return x
Loved my 2 night stay here a stunning place to stay, safari tent fabulous very clean and spacious the box bed was fab, stunning views, hosts Lydia and Richard are very welcoming and are always there for you if you have any problems couldn’t of asked for anything more would definitely recommend it
We were lucky enough to stay here for 2 nights. The perfect get away.
The safari tent is stunning, absolutely spotless and very comfortable. The welsh box bed is beautiful and the safari tent is equipped with everything you would possibly need.
Lydia and Richard were amazing hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them.
It was really refreshing to spend some time outdoors amongst the cows and the ducks whilst the little ones were able to run round outside and enjoy a little freedom.
Perfect way to spend some quality time together. Thank you Lydia and Richard for your amazing hospitality.
We loved everything here: meeting the lovely hosts, the fabulous accommodation where every detail has been carefully thought of (even the design of the safari tent is just beautiful!) , the welcome hamper, superb scenery, Caerphilly close by… Speechless about the hot tub and how well the hosts thought of everything – even gorgeous fairy lights that come on at night time.
We had a family break so our little one just loved the cows, ducks, grouse and hens, lovely lake, mud kitchen and sand pit!
We can also see how this would be the perfect romantic escape!
Can’t wait to come back.
Fantastic place to stay with gorgeous views. Hosts were friendly and welcoming.
Amazing place to stay would 110% come back .
Our first family Glamping experience. We loved the Safari tent, well equipped and so cosy. Our children loved running around outside having adventures and were so exited to be staying in a Safari tent, it was very relaxing for the grown ups too especially with our very own hot tub and such wonderful views.
